FAQ

We can save you time by answering some of the questions that are frequently asked by architects, lighting designers, media designers and installation professionals.

  • What is the maximum length of content uploaded to the panel?

There is no limit to video file size / length, but there is a limits to the by content manager rendered file, which should be less then 2GB. Pending size of panel, this is about 6 – 8 hours. In certain occasions lower framerates can be used for lenghts up to 24 hours in a single album.

  • Can I install a luminous textile panel rotated at any angle?

The content files used by the on-board player can be created using Content Manager, which supports only 0 or 90 degrees (portrait and landscape mounted panels). The majority of (3rd party) controllers who can stream to luminous textile panels support any rotation in any angle.

  • What are the content file format requirements?

    Content Manager software is supporting

    • Format: *.wmv files (Windows Media Video 9)
    • Codec: VC-1
    • Bit rate: average 1Mbps (standard quality)
    • Key frame: 1s. interval
    • Frame rate: free (25 fps by default)
  • Can I use other than ‘wmv’ files ( i.e. ‘mp4’ or ‘avi’)?

The Content Manager software only supports ‘wmv’ files. There are various free converter tools available (both for download and online tools) which can convert your file to a ‘wmv’ file. In streaming mode the supported files are depending on the 3rd party control system.

  • Is luminous textile Mac (OS X) compatible?

The settings of the luminous textile panel can be accessed via the on-board web server. The web server can be accessed via any device with an Internet browser, such as a Windows or Mac PC, a tablet or smartphone.
The luminous textile panel can be used in streaming mode, and there are both Windows and Macintosh (3rd party) applications available to stream Art-Net or KiNET data to the panels.
The content files used by the on-board player can be created using the Content Manager software, which is a Windows only application.

  • Can I buy a role of luminous textile?

Our luminous textile solution is a combination of LEDs and textile, fitted into a panel.
We do not supply a ’role of luminous textile’. The textiles we use can be ordered separately at Kvadrat. The panels (without lighting) are available separately too via Kvadrat Soft Cells.

  • Can I use luminous textile in 3D shapes?

The luminous textile panel is currently available in a 2D rectangular shape, in various sizes.
Multiple panels can be mounted in different orientations and angles to obtain 3D installations. Contact our support team for advise on the content options for this type of installation.

  • Can I order luminous textile in any dimension?

A luminous textile panel is between 720 and 1200 mm wide (in increments of 60 mm, in total 9 possible widths) and between 720 and 6480 mm long (in increments of 60 mm, in total 97 possible lengths).
This makes the smallest possible panel 720 x 720 mm and the largest possible panel 1200 x 6480 mm.

  • Can I use other than Kvadrat textile?

No, our luminous textile panels feature exclusively Kvadrat textiles.

  • Can I connect a webcam or camera to luminous textile?

If you use the correct (3rd party) equipment you can.
Luminous textile is not a video display. To make a good looking result from a camera feed you will most likely need to modify the contents coming from the camera (i.e. zooming, coloration, apply effects, adjust contrast etc.). Beside this you will need to translate the video into a streaming protocol that our panels understand, the Art-Net or KiNET protocol.
There are professional ’media servers’ available in the market which can perform these actions inside one device, i.e. from Coolux, Green Hippo, Arkaos or D3 technologies. These devices require specialist operators for setup. Feel free to contact our support team via support.luminous-textile@philips.com to bring you in contact with these companies.

  • Can I stream content to the panels from an external source?

Yes you can. The panels are suitable for Art-Net and KiNET streaming protocols.
See the System Integration manual for more details.

  • How many panels can I connect to each other via a power loop through cable?

The exact answer is depending on the dimensions of the panels, but as a guideline you can work with:
    Europe: max 6 players
    US: max 4 players
Please contact our support team for more details.

  • How big is the internal storage of the luminous textile panel?

The internal memory of one luminous textile panel is 8 GB.
Please note that a single file to upload cannot exceed 2 GB each.

  • What will I get when buying a luminous textile panel? Is it a finished product or do we need to work with more partners in order to get the product to fit my design?

Philips will offer the panel with integrated LED modules, power supply, player and software which enables animations to be uploaded and managed.

  • Troubleshooting: My panel shows a green outline (CM3.x.x)

The panel has been set to 'streaming' mode, but no valid streaming source is available.
Check the protocol (KINET V2 / Art-Net) and universe setting (Art-Net), control system and network if you are expecting a valid streaming source to be present.
If the panel is using its internal player, simply click an available album / playlist.
If the panel is part of a multipanel installation check the panel is configured to slave mode.

  • Troubleshooting: My panel shows a blue outline (CM3.x.x)

If a panel tries to playback content that cannot be found, it will display a blue outline on the panel.

The symptom can has its origin from various causes:

-Cause: SD card is not available.
-Origin: Power has been unplugged from the panel while data was written to SD card.
-Solution: Use the "repair SD card" function in the settings menu (ensure you are logged in as master) to repair the SD card.

-Cause: Panel is in slave mode, but not master found on the network.
-Origin: System is not setup correctly, network between panels is failing, or master panel is (temporary) down.
-Solution: ensure a master panel is assigned in the operating network.

-Cause: The requested content is not uploaded to the SD card.
-Origin: 1) A player PCB / driver box / SD card has been exchanged (i.e .repair action) and not all content used in this projects has been re-uploaded. 2) The masterpanel has shows available which is not available on the panel showing the blue outline (i.e. masterpanel
has been used in another setup) 3) Upload to the panel showing the blue outline has not been successful.
-Solution: Ensure your in Content Manager software rendered album(s) is (are) uploaded to all panels. To prevent confusion, remove any albums if not available on all panels in the installation.

  • Troubleshooting: The scheduler function does not work correct.

Please ensure the time on the ‘Master‘ panel is correct by verifying the time/date on the right top of all webserver pages
If this is not please go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Time’ to change this.

  • Troubleshooting: My router does not seem to work correctly

We advise to leave panels connected to mains permanently. In off state, all possible parts of the panel are shutdown, so the panels only consume a limited amount of power.
If possible, please set the panel to off state before disconnecting power.
The integrated playback controller is similar like a PC, it does not like to be removed from mains without a proper shutdown.

  • Troubleshooting: I have issues updating the firmware of a panel

Please reboot the installation (router and panels) and retry.
If you still encounter issues please contact our support team.

  • Troubleshooting: What spare parts can you supply for maintenance actions?

Please contact our support team for information about spare parts.

  • Troubleshooting: I forgot the password of my luminous textile panel. Can I reset this?

Please contact our support team. Owner relevant information will be asked to prevent misuse.

  • Troubleshooting: I am connected to the panel, but can't find the panel via Content Manager.

    Please check your network settings.
From factory, the luminous textile panels are set to receive an IP address automatically.
If there is no DHCP server (’router’) in the network the panels will create a ’link-local’ IP address (a random IP address in the 169.254.xxx.xxx/255.255.0.0 range). Your computer will create such an address too, but this might take up to 5 minutes for a Windows PC. Please wait and try again.

  • Troubleshooting: I forgot the fixed IP address of my luminous textile panel.

From software/firmware version 2.3.2 onwards the luminous textile panel will automatically create a ’link-local’ IP address (a random IP address in the 169.254.xxx.xxx/255.255.0.0 range).
Please set your computer to an IP address in this range, ensure you are connected to the panel(s) and use Content Manager to find the panels.

  • Troubleshooting: (Part of) my panel is off color

Checkfor each panel the ’Color correction app’ on the applications page and adjust colors for the panel / modules as necessary.

  • Troubleshooting: The brightness of my panels is low

Check on the administrator page of the master panel if the brightness setting is 100%.
Additionally, check the ’Color correction app’ on the applications page for each panel and check if the brightness setting is 100%.

  • Troubleshooting: My panels are not synchronized anymore.

    1. Check if the panels are connected to the router.
    2. Check if the router is still working, otherwise reboot the router.
    3. Make sure that one (and only one) panel of your setup is the Master panel.
  • Troubleshooting: My panels get a different IP address after a reboot.

Please assign a fixed IP address to your luminous textile panel(s)
This can be done on the settings page of the luminous textile panel(s), see chapter 4.2.1 of the Content Manager manual.
Alternatively you can use the DHCP reservation function form your router. If you are using a D-link router supplied by Large Luminous surfaces, please read page 27 of the installation manual

  • Troubleshooting: I want to upload a .LCF file of 3 GB, but it fails.

There is a 2Gb restriction per .LCF file. If your rendered album is bigger than 2Gb you need to use a lower frame rate, or split the content over two albums in the Content Manager. For the latter use the scheduler to play the files after each other. Be aware that the scheduler only can schedule events on the base of minutes, and content files are playing in loops. Thus, a switchover of content is never accurate.

  • Troubleshooting: My remote control does not work.

Check whether the on/off switch on the side of the remote is set to the ON position, and the laser pointer (button in the middle of the remote control) works.
If the laser pointer does not work replace the battery and try again.

If the laser pointer works but the panel(s) do(es) not respond:

    • Please check whether the USB receiver has been removed from the bottom of the remote control.
    • Please check whether the USB receiver is correctly inserted in the driver box of the Master panel.

Note that the dongles from different remote controls are note interchangeable
